Just a couple of months ago Nathan and I sat together at Mr. P’s BBQ (our first date night since having baby Zachary… although we let him tag along too). As we talked about future plans and things, Nathan shared a lot with me about his excitement and plans for Snow Camp this winter and life on the Island this summer! For anyone who really knows Nathan, camp is another item that would rank high on the list of favorites (John mentioned music being one of Nathan’s favorite things in an earlier post). Years ago when we first got married and began working with Word of Life, we both wrote up biblical principles for various things like our life and ministry, marriage, raising children (biblical principles being what God’s Word says about a particular subject, we would write it out in a clear and concise way just to help clarify for us what God had to say on those areas of our lives…) Since then we have moved several times and Nathan’s position with Word of Life has also changed several times. As we were anticipating all of the exciting changes to come, we realized we probably needed to update our principles. Since one of our longtime favorite verses has been Ephesians 3:20 “Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope,” we started looking around this whole passage. It didn’t take long before we settled on Ephesians 3:14-21!
Paul prays, “When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will give you mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May He be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen.”
So as we discussed what our hopes and goals would be for those we looked forward to influencing through Snow Camp and summer camp on the Island and in any other way God allows, this passage covered so much of our desire! Paul prays for:
- inner man to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit
- for Christ to dwell in your hearts by faith
- to be rooted & grounded down in their core
- for others to comprehend width, length, height & depth of God’s love
- to be filled with the fullness of God
- that God does exceedingly, abundantly above what we would even dare to ask for or think of
- Glory to Jesus!
